Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

    Personal problems can affect the lives of employees both at home and at work. Therefore the Nantucket Public School System offers a comprehensive program that helps employees resolve personal problems that may adversely impact their work performance, conduct, health and well-being. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is offered through Family and Children’s Services of Nantucket (FCSN). The EAP addresses problems in the quickest, least restrictive, and most convenient manner while minimizing cost and protecting employee confidentiality.

    The EAP offers initial assessments, short-term counseling, referral and follow-up services for:

    • Family/relationship issues
    • Workplace concerns
    • Alcohol and drug problems
    • Personal and emotional difficulties
    • Health and behavioral issues


    If an employee requires long-term treatment (beyond 3 sessions), the counselor will make a referral to a community resource and follow progress where appropriate. Employees make confidential appointments with counselors who assess their needs and work with them to develop appropriate action plans. Our experienced counselors/ intake representatives will ask a few vital questions and arrange an appointment that is convenient for the employee. .

    Referrals

    Formal Referrals are when a supervisor or human resource manager makes a referral for an employee to the EAP for work performance problems. The manager will notify the EAP by telephone or in writing prior to the employee contacting us that you have referred your employee so we can better understand what has been happening at work. When we have the referral information from you we will let the referring manager know whether the employee has made contact with the EAP. 

    Informal Referrals are when management suggests or refers an employee to the EAP, but the referral is not for work performance problems. With informal referrals, we will not be notifying the school without the employee’s written consent.

    Self-Referrals are when an employee independently contacts the EAP for a confidential appointment. Job performance problems may or may not exist. The School will not be notify contact without the employee’s written consent.

     

    Contacting the Employee Assistance Program

    Initial contact can be made by calling Family and Children’s Services at 508-228-2689. It is important that you let the FCSN office know that you are calling regarding the Employee Assistance Program for the school to ensure the fastest and most appropriate response to your request.

    In case of emergency FCSN is available 24 hours a day by calling 508-228-2689. Please let the operator know this is an emergency call and you will be put through to the on call clinician.
