The following members of the Nantucket School Committee are elected by the community to serve three year terms. Their responsibilities are to:

  • Establish the educational philosophy of Nantucket Public Schools
  • Make the educational policy
  • Adopt curriculum
  • Evaluate the educational program
  • Establish the regulations for governing and operation of the district, and
  • Hire, evaluate, and (if necessary) dismiss the superintendent

The school committee encourages you to attend their meetings held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month in the Nantucket High School cafeteria at 6:00pm.

Dr. Timothy Lepore, Chairman, tjalepore@hotmail.com

Dr. Timothy Lepore moved to Nantucket in January 1983 with his wife Cathy and their three children, Meredity, TJ and Nicholas.  Dr. Lepore has serviced the Nantucket School Committee for the past 24 years (his wife has been at school for 25).  Dr. Lepore graduated from Harvard College in 1966 and Tufts School of Medicine in 1970.  He maintains a busy General Surgical/General Medical practice on Nantucket, is considered a specialist in tick bourne diseases and has been involved in on-going research in the area of Babesiosis and Lyme Disease.  He has been the School Physician for the past 29 years attending almost every Whale Football game, both on island and off, since that time.  His interests includes flintnapping and falconry and is an avid runner, completing, not competing the past 44 consective Boston marathons.  His idea of relaxation is catching up on his professional reading and a variety of non-fiction books. “Island Practice” a non-fiction work highlighting Dr. Lepore’s work on the island was published this summer of 2012 and the creation of a pilot is underway.

Proud to call Nantucket home, Melissa was a 1993 graduate of Nantucket High School.  After attending college and living in Portland, ME for almost 9 years, Melissa returned to Nantucket in 2008 with her husband and two children and their two Jack Russell Terriers.  Melissa was elected to the School Committee in the Spring of 2009.  She loves being a part of the lead policy making body for the schools.  She continues to volunteer her time to various organizations,  has recently jumped into a large role with the Dreamland Theater, Melissa most values the time spent with her family.

 

 

 

 

Robin Harvey, Secretary, robinharvey1@mac.com

Robin Harvey grew up in Middletown, RI, graduatingin 1978 with a BS in Physical Education & Health K-12 from the University of Rhode Island. Along with her husband EJ, they worked in Woodstock, VT and eventually moved to Nantucket, and worked in a variety of places before they opened E.J. Harvey’s Island Restaurant in 1985.  In 1991 they moved to the Seagrille, which they have owned and operated for over twenty years.

Robin and E.J. have three children, and two grandchildren who all reside on the island. Robin is very involved in the community and has enjoyed coaching and being extremely connected with her children and grandchildren’s activities. She has been a board member of the Boy’s and Girl’s Club and is currently a member of the Nantucket School Committee.  She has worked on the NPS Strategic Plan  and is a member of the Ad Hoc Budget Advisory Committee.  Currently in her fourth year as a Nantucket School Committee member…" I have thoroughly enjoyed my service and involvement in the Nantucket Public Schools.  I look forward to continuing working with the school community to ensure the best school system the island has to offer for our children.”

 

 

    Jenny Garneau,  jennygarneau@gmail.com

Mrs. Garneau works for the Department of Mental Health as a Community and Coalition Organizer and is the Drug Free Community Project Director.  She has a BA in Government from Connecticut College. She is the proud mother of a Nantucket High School graduate and has lived on Nantucket for 23 years

 

Jenny Garneau is now in her 2nd term on the School Committee and is currently the Chairperson.  Mrs. Garneau ran for the School Committee because she said that she believes there is nothing more important than a good education.  “With the resources available to us here on Nantucket and our strong administration, faculty, and staff, I know we can continuously improve our student education, social and emotional development.”

 


 

 

Jennifer Iller, jennailler@gmail.com

Jennifer Iller is a newly elected member to the School Committee.  She is a former graduate, K-12 from the Nantucket Public Schools.  Currently, she is a parent of three enrolled students and an active volunteer within the schools. 

 

Jennifer received a BA from Saint Michael’s College in Winooski Park, VT. Also, she maintains a current EMT certification and works year round as a Property Manager.”
