Dear Students, Staff and Parents,

It is with excitement and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2010-2011 school year.  As most of you may know at this point, this is my first year as your Superintendent of Schools.  I have been working since April to make the transition to the Nantucket Public Schools efficient and successful.  In that time, I have learned a great deal about our schools and community.  While we have some significant challenges, we also have many talented people who are dedicated to the students in our district.  With the right people and resources in place, I am confident that we can provide our students with an environment conducive to learning and accomplish some wonderful goals this year.

I will make every effort to put CHILDREN FIRST.  To achieve this we must provide an appropriate balance of rigor and nurture in our schools.  It is important to me that we develop "the whole child," providing opportunities for children to grow academically, physically, socially and emotionally. 

If you have any questions, concerns or thoughts (or even compliments for what we are doing right), please do not hesitate to come in and speak with me.  Catch me in the halls, on the playing fields or make an appointment if you prefer, but let me know how we can make NPS Better Than Ever.

Tips to Start the Year Off Right

Make sure your children get enough sleep Children who are tired from lack of sleep cannot do  their best in the classroom.

Make sure your children eat breakfast

Research shows that children who do not eat breakfast don't do as well in school as those who do.

Communicate with your child's teacher

If you have a question or concern, call your child's teacher. Communication is a two-way street and you need not wait until your child's teacher calls you.

Nancy Miller, Director of Special Services

Responsible for student services in the area of special education, 504 plans and English as a Second Language.

Michael Horton, Data Coordinator

Coordinates the district Professional Development Plan,The

District Literacy Plan, and the District Data Team. Works with teams of teachers to develop a culture that uses Data to improve student achievement.

Responsible for the care and maintenance of school district buildings and grounds.
