The English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC) is a parent-led group that provides advice to schools and districts on English Learner (EL) programs and issues. ELPAC's goal is to promote family engagement and support the academic success of EL students. By giving a voice to EL families and encouraging involvement, ELPACs play a vital role in helping English Learners succeed academically and maintain their cultural identities.Parents and guardians of current and former ELs can join, and meetings often provide interpretation services to ensure participation, including:
- Advising schools and districts: ELPACs offer advice on developing and improving English Learner education programs and services.
- Participating in planning: They meet with school officials to help plan programs that provide educational opportunities for EL students.
- Reviewing improvement plans: ELPACs review district and school improvement plans to ensure they effectively address the needs of ELs.
- Building school-family partnerships: The councils foster strong, trusting relationships between families and schools, creating a supportive environment for students.
