School-Issued Device Agreement

Students in grade 6 and grade 9 are given new Chromebooks each year to use as their own while they are in CPS and NHS, respectively. Students in grades K-5 have Chromebooks available in their classrooms and library for use during school hours.

Please review the guidelines below, then check the appropriate box on the Technology Agreements page. This agreement must be signed by September 30th. After September 30th, student accounts without signed agreements will be suspended.

Repair and Replacement Process

Repairs and Replacements for students in grades Pre-K to 5 will be done at no charge, unless the damage is caused by malicious intent.
All students are expected to keep the Chromebooks in good condition. Failure to do so may result in bills for repair or replacement for students in grades 6-12.
Students are expected to report any damage to their Chromebook as soon as possible and no later than the next school day. Students will report damage to a school-issued Chromebook by putting in a tech ticket by emailing techhelp@npsk.org or creating a ticket at https://nantucketpsd.gethelphss.com/UI/tickets/create
The school-issued device will be evaluated by the technology department. The technology department may swap the student’s current device for another device, which will become the student’s official device. If the damage can be repaired quickly, the student may be given a temporary loaner, which needs to be returned at the end of the day.
If the device is not damaged and just needs some configuration updates or the issue is caused by general wear and tear, there will be no cost to the student for repair.
In grades 6-12 students will be able to sign out for a loaner device during school hours. Loaners are to be checked out at the beginning of the school day and returned at the end of the school day. In grades K-5 students will receive a loaner at the discretion of their teacher.
All devices shall remain the property of Nantucket Public Schools and students must return the device at the request of the tech deparment, (which may occur at the end of the school year) at graduation, withdrawal or when given a new device.

Repair and Payment Process

Damages to Chromebooks are assessed as a minor repair ($50), a major repair ($100) and replacement cost ($250). Students are responsible for retaining their chargers. Replacement chargers cost $25. Students are encouraged to label their charging cable with their name.
Families with established financial need will be given a 50% discount on all Chromebook fees

All damages to the Chromebook, whether accidental, intentional or done by another student, will be assessed the above fee to the student assigned the Chromebook.
Incoming grade 9 students who have not paid their fees will not receive a new Chromebook. They will receive a grade 8 Chromebook until the fees are paid.
Graduating seniors will not receive their cap & gown for graduation until Chromebook fees are paid.
