Mrs. Deanna Avery
I have been at CPS as a math teacher since 2012, after many years at NES as a fourth and third grade classroom teacher. I began officially teaching in the Nantucket Public School system in 1997 after a year as a special needs Teaching Assistant and many years prior to that as a volunteer and substitute teacher. While at NES I served as math coach and co-led an after school student newspaper.
Though born and raised in northern Vermont I have lived and worked on Nantucket for over three decades. From these shores I commuted to UMass Amherst where I obtained an Associate’s Degree in Commercial Floriculture from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture. A later commute to Antioch New England Graduate School in Keene, New Hampshire resulted in a Master’s of Education degree.
I enjoy music but do not like singing or dancing. I dislike the water but enjoy kayaking. I like both reading and writing, but don’t enjoy reading my writing aloud.
I like integrating content areas and making cross curricular connections in my teaching and learning. I love the exclamation “Ah ha!” coming from my students.
