Mrs. Lisa Hood
Hello! My name is Lisa Hood and I am one of the school counselors at NES. I was born and raised on Nantucket. Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to work with children. After graduating from Nantucket High School, I went to Lesley University where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Early
Childhood Education and Special Education. I also became licensed as a Teacher of Young Children with Special Needs and a K-3 Teacher.
After teaching off island for several years, I decided to move back home to work in the elementary school. That was 34 years ago! My first job at NES was as a Special Education teacher. I have also had the opportunity to teach in 3rd grade and work in administration as an interim Director of Special Services.
I found that I loved helping students recognize their strengths and be the best that they can be so I decided to go back to Lesley University for a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. I then had the opportunity to become a school counselor at NES where I have been able to work with Grades K-6. That was about 18 years ago. I am certified by the Department of Education as a School Counselor, Grades K-8. In addition, I am a nationally board certified counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors. I currently get to work with students who are in K-2 classrooms both individually and during Social Emotional Learning blocks.
I have 3 children, two daughters ages 16 and 18, and a son who is 30. I also have 2 grandchildren, ages 2
and 6, and a 2 year old black lab. Besides working with children, I enjoy taking long walks with my dog, traveling to fun places with my family, and being YaYa to my grandchildren.
