Nantucket Schools Chat is a secure real-time messaging Mobile App that lets parents and staff communicate in rooms organized by courses,teachers, and schools. NPS Chat connects directly with our district webpage host and Aspen so that district calendar events, news updates, directories, and teacher contacts are synced automatically. Nantucket Schools Chat replaces the Remind Messaging App.

Nantucket Schools Chat can be accessed via an app on your phone or on the web. To access via the web, please go to https://www.npsk.org/fs/chat/signin

Change Your Settings

In the Nantucket Schools Chat app, tap your initials (in the top right) to see all the settings you can personalize.

Chat messages do not push to your email. You must enable notifications on your phone or check the website to see new messages. Choose your preferred schedule and time range.

Chat Rooms and Direct Messages

Currently NPS Chat settings limit Chat Room participants to school personnel and parent/guardians.

Students may not communicate with teachers via Nantucket Schools Chat. Only school personnel are allowed to post message in chat rooms.

Member Visibility

Only school personnel can see names of chat room participants. The names of school personnel are always visible to recipients.

Direct Messages

If parents wish to send the teacher a message, they should send a Direct Message (DM).

Enable Push Notifications

A push notification are short messages that pop up on a phone screen or desktop even when the app is not open. Enabling push notifications is handy because users are alerted to important information, even when not using the app.

Nantucket Schools Chat is connected to the school website, so it can send alerts to users about new website information, calendar information, important announcements and other messages from school personnel. Important announcements cannot be turned off and are always enabled. They cannot be toggled off because they are reserved for urgent, emergency communications.

To Get Started

Push Notifications must be set up within the settings dashboard. You can decide what type of alerts you want to have sent to your email or other locations. Navigate to the profile bubble, then go to Preferences > Notifications to manage which categories of school content arrive as push notifications.

Set your notification schedule

Choose when the phone is allowed to send notifications about new chats. Use this to set quiet hours for evenings, weekends, or any other times.

Always: Receive notifications 24/7, any day of the week.
Every day: Set a specific start and end time window for daily notifications (for example, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM).
Weekdays: Receive alerts all day on weekdays, or during a specific weekday time window.
Custom: Define a unique combination of days and times that fits a specific family schedule.

Families can mute or unmute specific calendars and News/Updates boards to personalize their app experience.

How School Personnel Use the App

Teachers can use NPS Chat to share class news, announcements, and reminders in a forum-like feed or announcements page.
Teachers can also start direct messages (DMs) for 1:1 communication with parents. Similarly, parents can initiate DMs to both their child's teachers in the app as well as any teacher in the school. How School Offices Use NPS Chat
District and School Office calendar events and News/Updates shared on the website will be automatically included in the homepage of the app. This page can be edited by viewers in the app to filter what they want to see.
Front Offices & School Administration can share school-wide reminders to all parents in the district. They can also can reach out to specific families via DM or 1:1 communication regarding a student question or concern (such as reporting student attendance).
School Nurses can connect with any of the parents of students in the school regarding health-related questions or concerns.

How Everyone Can Use Chat

Reply and use emojis: Use threads to keep responses organized and emojis to add tone to your messages.
Share rich media: Send links, photos, and files directly from your mobile device gallery or folders.
View read receipts: Check the status of your messages to see who in the room has viewed your updates.
