“Every child deserves a champion -- an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be."

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!
Dear Students and Families,
I am very excited to be the new principal at NIS and begin our first school year together. It has been a great and busy summer moving to and exploring beautiful Nantucket. I’ve also been privileged to work alongside Mrs. Johnson, assistant principal, Dr. (Eddie) Wilkin, assistant principal intern, collaborate with the district leadership team, and begin working with many NIS teachers and staff. But,the real excitement begins in a few weeks when the building ills up with students as we start the new school year on September 5, 2023!
In a very short time it has been easy for me to see that NIS is a special place full of dedicated teachers and staff working together to do what is best for our students. I look forward to having many conversations with families and students to get to know even more about the wonderful people that make up our school community.
Building relationships with NIS students and families is a priority for our team. There will be some opportunities throughout the year to support that. One such opportunity is set for Thursday, August 31st where you can come in for a “Meet and Greet” with classroom teachers from 11:00-12:00 and then enjoy a “Popsicle with the Principals” on the playground from 12:00-1:00 pm. We also plan to hold Principal/Family Conversations at times throughout the year for informal conversations together. In addition, we are seeking parent(s)/guardian(s) to be involved in our school community through participation in the NIS School Council. Please be on the lookout for these and other opportunities in our monthly newsletter, Remind texts and Facebook page for us to build relationships and support NIS as partners.
We look forward to partnering with you to support every child’s academic and social growth and success in the upcoming school year.
Happy New School Year,
Ms. Becky Janda, NIS Principal
