Theran SIngleton

I was born and raised Roxbury Massachusetts. I attended the Boston Public schools until my  sophomore year of high school when my family relocated to Nantucket. Nantucket high school was quite an adjustment in comparison to Boston Technical, my former high school. I went to Mt. Ida College during my senior year of high school and then returned to Nantucket to attend my graduation. After attending Mount Ida I ran the Infant Program at the Commonwealth Children’s Center for eight years. I decided to move back to Nantucket with my son Krishna and applied for teaching assistant position at Nantucket Elementary School. At this point, I developed a passion for working with special needs students. In 2000, I enrolled in a program at Lesley College and earned a B.A. in Elementary education. After collaboration with a few colleagues, Bridgewater State college agreed to offer a Master’s in special education program here on Nantucket. While enrolled in this program I also took part in a variety of specialized reading trainings offered by the district. The combination of these two factors caused me to become more interested in teaching reading. As a result, in enrolled in a program to become a reading specialist. After defending my research, I graduated with a C.A.G.S. degree in 2016. When not working a enjoy cooking, travel and spending time with my family.
