Mr. Steve Sheppard

NIS music teacher and chorus instructor Steve Sheppard has been with the Nantucket Public Schools for fifteen years. He has worked in all four island schools and over the years has served the district as baseball coach, teacher mentor, Savings Makes Sense instructor, and full-time substitute teacher. By instituting the ukulele program in fourth and fifth grades, Nantucket was among the first elementary schools on the Cape and Islands to feature the instrument in its music curriculum. His songwriting credits include “The Fenway Song” and “We Are the Future,” a song written for fifth graders.

He is a trustee of the Admiral Sir Isaac Coffin Lancasterian School. He is also a member of the island musical group The ShepCats and the author of “Tourist Town,” a New England Book Festival award-winning novel. He is a graduate of Bridgewater State College.
