Elissa Gilgen

I joined the faculty of Nantucket High School in August of 2016. While I'd been teaching Science for thirteen years, I initially taught Math at NHS, and managed to stay about two days ahead of me students. I loved the experience as it "put me in the students shoes" and reminded me of the value of patience and trying different approaches for different learners. I've been back in Science since August 2017 and those lessons of the first year have carried over . . . while Biology, Chemistry and Physics are second nature for me, they weren't always. Finding new ways of helping students grasp concepts is a humbling challenge but there is NOTHING as awesome seeing a face light up and confidence grow!

I'm originally from the Midwest but spent 28 years raising my family in Western North Carolina.
