Ms. Anne M. Phaneuf

This 2018-2019 school year marks my 22nd year as an English teacher in the Nantucket Public Schools. My course load includes three college-preparatory sophomore English classes, one Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition class, and one Journalism class, which is an elective that includes sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Teaching students how to develop their reading and writing skills is definitely my passion, and I love witnessing the power of storytelling in the classroom. I grew up in Chelmsford, Mass., and worked for several years in high-tech marketing communications after graduating from college with an English degree. I received my master's in journalism and also worked for several years writing for magazines and newspapers. I came to Nantucket 28 years ago to write for the local newspaper and feel very fortunate to have made my home here ever since. My husband and I have two children: my son Luke is an 11th grader this year, and my daughter Claire is a junior at Bates College.I feel extremely fortunate to be working with Nantucket students, as I find our school to be a close-knit community where students, teachers and all staff work closely together to meet and exceed standards in a truly diverse learning environment. My own training includes an undergraduate degree in English, with a concentration in art, and a graduate degree in Journalism.
